PARENT CARES PROGRAMS
Parent Networking
Our parent networking programs are “rapid response” programs which address pressing parental or community concerns not covered by our regular calendar of topics or events. For these topics, we bring in outside speakers or work with local experts to provide timely information. Networking occurs by individual grade level and also by aggregate grade groups (e.g., elementary networking, 7th & 8th grade networking, or high school networking). A sample networking topic would be our CARS and CURFEWS program which addresses emotional, behavioral and legal issues surrounding the implications of student drivers. It is directed to parents of high school students and is offered at least once each year.
Family Conversations
Our Family Conversations programs bring together youth, parents and faculty as students transition from elementary to middle school and middle school to high school. These programs offer guidance addressing a wide range of issues including communicating effectively, positive discipline, boundary setting, over-programming, stress, substance abuse and many other topics, as well as a supportive environment for sharing questions and concerns.
Parallel Parenting
Finally, our Parallel Parenting and Community Speaker Series provide multiple opportunities for parents to hear from national and local experts as they create a ‘team-approach’ to parenting. This also provides the often-requested opportunity for networking with fellow parents and experts on important issues. These programs are offered in the evenings to meet the schedules of those who cannot attend daytime venues. Within this parenting series, several programs have been directly targeted toward preschool audiences (From Friendship to Friendshift: Building Friendship Skills, and Transitioning to Kindergarten), as this population of parents frequently is overlooked with regard to parent education.
