PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS
CARES offers several programs aimed at delivering important health and safety information to preschool children. Through the use of puppets, story-telling, and games, preschoolers get hands-on experience with key health and safety topics including identifying community helpers and their role in public safety, making good choices to keep their bodies healthy and strong, personal safety skills (including stranger danger and water safety) and building positive friendships.
Community Helpers
This program gives children a broad perspective of all the resources working to keep our community safe. Using teambuilding and role-play, children identify the different roles of community members, leaders, and helpers, and their own roles in promoting personal safety. Children will have the opportunity to act out different roles and discuss how they contribute to public safety.
Strong, Healthy Me
This program helps preschool children develop an appreciation for strong, healthy bodies and teaches them how to make good choices to achieve this result. Using puppets, puzzles and the Healthy Choices game, students identify foods, snacks, beverages and activities that build strong healthy bodies, teeth, and spirit. This program also addresses positive body image.
Keeping Safe
This program teaches children how to remain safe while navigating the world around them. Stranger danger, water safety, pedestrian safety, and help-seeking skills are all covered in this personal safety session. Games and story-telling are used to reinforce smart choices and alert children to potentially dangerous situations.
Building Friendships
This program models good play behavior and encourages children to begin appreciating their peers. During this friendship-building session, preschoolers practice sharing, caring, and positive play skills. Games and story-telling are used to illustrate smart choices and behaviors.
